Community refers to the connections we have with others and the sense of belonging we derive from being part of a group.
These connections involve meaningful interactions through empathy, acceptance, understanding, and shared experiences. Engaging deeply with our community enhances our sense of fulfilment and wellbeing.
Building strong, supportive relationships within a community not only enriches our lives but also empowers us to thrive together.
As the co-founder of the IAMPOWER Summit, I envisioned an event where women would gather and connect. A place where they could express themselves, feel heard and supported and be acknowledged for their specific needs. Where women's health experts would share their insights on a holistic approach to mental health and wellbeing, it turned out to be exactly that and so much more.
"Lived Experience" is an art exhibition that brings together various artists to share their incredible artworks with the community. As a collaboration with Fresh Tracs, disability and mental health support services, it offers a unique opportunity to witness and connect with the artists through a meaningful collection of works. This exhibition provides an insight into raw self-expression through art therapy and art as an expressive medium. Celebrating each client's creative journeys and the powerful stories behind each piece was incredible.
Engaging in art therapy, such as screen printing classes, offers a fun way to connect with like-minded people while reaping the benefits of creativity. Practising art can be especially therapeutic for those experiencing challenging times, as it provides relief from anxious thoughts and serves as an outlet for expressing complex emotions that are difficult to put into words.
Exploring creativity helps us get unstuck by using visual representations to release pent-up emotions and gain mental clarity. Viewing our creations provides a fresh perspective, offering a new lens to understand our subconscious. Engaging in artistic pursuits promotes mindfulness and focus, grounding us in the present moment and diverting attention from anxiety-inducing thoughts. The creative process naturally facilitates stress reduction and triggers the body’s relaxation response.
HOME BEAUTIFUL MAGAZINE recently featured a lovely article on my work as an artist and my screen printing workshops. It beautifully captured the essence of my creative journey and the joy of sharing screen printing with others. I'm thrilled to see my passion for art and teaching highlighted in such a renowned publication.
